ICF Level 1 Pathway

All ICF credentialing levels have the same basic requirements:
Education, Experience, Mentoring, and a Final Performance Evaluation. Each credentialing level has specific requirements in each of those areas.

LEVEL 1 PROGRAM

CTA’s Level 1 Program includes all the required training, education, mentoring, and final performance evaluation to apply for an ACC credential. Participants who complete the coursework and activities listed will receive documentation from Coach Training Alliance showing they have successfully completed the Level 1 Program.

EDUCATION

Certified Coach Program and
Advanced Coach-the-Coach

ICF requires Level 1 Programs to include 60 contact hours of coach training and five (5) observed coaching sessions. The Certified Coach Program provides 60 contact hours. Advanced Coach-the-Coach provides additional observed coaching sessions. Together, these classes satisfy the Level 1 education requirement and candidates who wish to complete CTA’s Level 1 Program will need to take both classes (or demonstrate they have completed equivalent training).

EXPERIENCE

100 Hours

ICF requires aspiring ACC candidates to complete at least 100 hours of coaching experience (70 hours of which are paid with at least eight clients and at least 25 of these hours must occur within 24 months before applying for the credential). CTA facilitates reciprocal peer coaching so candidates can complete these experience hours.

MENTORING

Group Mentor Coaching and
Individual Mentor Coaching

ICF requires Level 1 Programs to include 10 hours of mentor coaching. Mentor Coaching is different from the observed coaching sessions completed during your initial coach training. Group Mentor Coaching satisfies seven (7) of the required 10 hours. Individual Mentor coaching satisfy the three (3) additional one-on-one hours. Together, these classes satisfy the Level 1 mentoring requirements and candidates who wish to complete CTA’s Level 1 Program will need to take both classes (or demonstrate they have completed equivalent training).

FINAL PERFORMANCE EVALUATION

Final Performance Evaluation Session

ICF requires Level 1 Programs to include a final performance evaluation where candidates demonstrate their ability to coach at the ACC level (or higher). The Final Performance Evaluation Session is administered by Coach Training Alliance and is the final step in our Level 1 Program.
